Class Description

Identical to SNG's 3-Month Intensive Japanese/College Preparatory courses, the primary difference is that the students enrolling in the study-abroad course apply for a "college" visa, and sign a contract for one or one and a half years. Students in the intensive course are taught Japanese in Japanese from the very beginning, studying three hours a day, five days a week, for a total of "200" classroom hours per term, leading to a total of 800 or 1,200 classroom hours by the end of their studies.

*SNG is certified by the Japanese Ministry of Education to prepare students from nations with 10-year or 11-year educational systems for admission to Japanese universities, technical schools, and other institutes of higher education.

Class Levels

Class levels are divided into 3-month terms, with all-around linguistic ability sufficient to pass the final exam of the previous level as a prerequisite for admission to each level. Students possessing Japanese proficiency sufficient to pass the exams for SNG's Intermediate 2 class may opt to enroll in SNG's Business Japanese or Tourism Industry Japanese classes. Likewise, once a year, from January to March, a Japanese Teacher Training class is also offered to students who wish to teach Japanese in their home country.

Classes Times

4 terms per year, 10 weeks per term, 5 days per week, 4 hours per day
(45min. classes followed by 10min. breaks)
Total: 600 classroom hours
Morning OR afternoon classes available

Length of Contract

Independent applicants applying for "college" visas are required to sign a one year or one and a half year contract, except in the case of application from certain liaison schools. Contract length is determined by the term of enrollment. April enrollees are only required to sign a one year contract, while October enrollees are required to sign a one and a half year contract. Contract length is designed to ensure smooth transition from SNG to the educational institution of the student's choosing.

Tuition and other fees must be paid in full before the start of classes.

Application Procedures

First and foremost, students must discuss sponsor/guarantor arrangements with SNG staff. Visas obtained through SNG are officially sponsored by SNG, making SNG leagally answerable for the actions of the student during their stay in Japan. Therefore, SNG requires that anyone applying for admission to the "Study-Abroad" program, and by extention applying for a "Ryuu-gaku" visa. (AKA: "college visa"), have a sponsor/guarantor, such that the school will have a reliable and stable contact person, in the event of documentation or legal trouble.

SNG will not provide ANY documentation of ANY SORT for independent visa procurement via regional Japanese embassies.

School Guarantors

Applicants who apply via one of our official international liaison schools can ask the school to act as their guarantor, eliminating the need for an individual guarantor living in Japan. As part of our recruitment agreement with said schools, applicants seeking student visas must apply through their regional liasion school.

Individual Application

All other applicants must have a relative, or Japanese national with strong ties to the applicant's family, living in the Kanto region of Japan (Tokyo area) act as their guarantor. This person must contact the school to arrange an interview, to be conducted at the school, during regular business hours.

Fiances, acquaitances, or friends will not be accepted.

Unfortunately, SNG can not accept applications from anyone lacking a suitable guarantor. Long-standing business associates or friends of the applicant's family may be acceptable in certain circumstances.

Those lacking a suitable guarantor may apply for admission to our "3-Month Intensive Course" and are asked to see our "Visa" page for advice on visa procurement.
