■ Have you ever seen "SUMO" ?

On 2/4 (Sun), we went to see sumo wrestling, a national sport of Japan!

We went for a grand sumo tournament tour once again; one of our annual events. Even Japanese people (and I) do not have much opportunity to view real sumo wrestling. However, it has been popular among our students.
(*This is totally off topic, but H.E. Demon Kogure is also into sumo. I’m a bit into Demon Kogure.)
Anyway: Feb. 4th (Sun), sunny. The foreign students and staff members entered the building after they stamped their feet on the ground in front of the wall painting of the sumo wrestlers. They seemed to have enjoyed and were satisfied with the matches. Actually seeing the big wrestlers bang into each other gives a certain excitement not experienced through TV. It was a tour we hope to continue every year.

■ Let’s celebrate the Chinese New Year!

A party was held in Ueno Park on 2/10 (Sat) to celebrate the New Year by the lunar calendar. Staff members and some volunteers from our school participated in the event as performers and created a lively scene.
(←Myat, who participated as a staff)

The 20th “Celebration party of the Chinese New Year” was held in Ueno Park this year on Feb. 10th (Sat). Some of our students were involved with various projects and administration of the party. It must’ve been for them a valuable experience not acquirable at school. A sense of accomplishment and challenge, not felt from home stay programs of our school, were presumably experienced through communications with other foreign students from different Japanese language institutes, with Japanese staffs and student staffs.
Those students who participated as performers spread their beautiful voice throughout the park. I think (Unfortunately I could not attend because I was at the school renewing the homepage. Arrggg).
Song performances, dance performances. The ones who excited the crowd with a Dragon Ball costume were Waseda students. I can feel their vigor through the photo. It must’ve been cold.

■ 3 years in a row, off to France Expo Langues

We went again to spread Japanese language education throughout the EU, including in France.

It’s 3 years in a row: We participated in this year’s Expo Langues in Paris, France. This is an immense international exhibition related to the languages from around the globe. We are worried that the status of the Japanese language in EU will decline as a common European framework of reference for languages across the EU nations spreads.
We are participating with a sense of mission to spread Japanese language education, however limited in financial resources we may be.
