■ The Bon dance at SUWA Shrine. Bon dance was held at SUWA Shrine in Takadanobaba on July 21 (Sat), so I went to dance too. Every year, many students−mostly from Hong Kong−come to the SNG summer courses. Though the courses are less than a month, we include various programs that allow students to experience the Japanese culture, in addition to Japanese language studies, such as cooking at a technical college (making Tendon), going to the Edo Tokyo Museum, Ikebukuro Bosaikan, Fujikyu High Land, and Tokyo Disney Sea. Here is one of our programs: the Bon dance. After sunset, and after the Japanese lanterns were lit, the Bon dance began. Those students who wished to dance joined the circle of dancers; those who wished to eat bought and ate yakisoba and ice cream. By the way, some of the SNG faculty members had come to join too, all of whom seemed to be enjoying the moment. How beautiful the lanterns were. Somehow I felt like I was a middle school or high school student once again. Am I the only one who seems to recall such words as “summer vacation,” “after school,” and “club activities”? And thus I think: “Oh, I’m not young any more.” Perhaps the time to take a trip is coming again. This is just my personal sentiment. A bike would be best for a trip.
■ Giving the Certificate of Scholarship Award
A ceremony was held on July 24 (Tue) at SNG to give those students who received a scholarship a certificate. Obviously, I wish these studious and hard-working students would use the scholarship money. A ceremony was held for these excellent students. Each recipient was highly qualified, as decided by the school. Please continue to do well with those wonderful smiles.
■ Intensive Summer Courses; a successful end The Ezoe teaching methods were taught in a short period. The three-day short-term course (from Aug. 10 to 12, 2007) came to a successful end. The Ezoe grammar has been receiving attention from Japanese education fields as well as the Japanese language education fields. On the last day, there was a student who said, “Three days is too short. I want to continue learning.” Where Japanese stands as a language from an international point of view, the history of the Japanese grammar as seen today, the consideration of “information” and “predicate” that are at the core of Japanese language education, and on the postpositional particle. An extremely stimulating, intensive short-term course! ( FYI: Summer intensive program 2007 )
■ Now accepting applicants for examination prep courses. To those who are taking the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test! This is a two-day intensive course held on Sep. 15 and 16, 2007. Mastering the phonetics is the key to passing. Why don’t you acquire the skill to overcome this through our demonstrations? Please click on the below.
