■ Congratulations, 275 graduates!

On March 22nd we had the graduation ceremony for the students of the course 2007 at Arcadia Ichigaya. This year we launched as many graduates as 275.

Having altered the place from the BIG BOX where we had used for a long time to the bigger hall, Arcadia Ichigaya, and with altogether about 330 people including those graduating students, their families, and all the SNG’s staff, we had the biggest ceremony in recent years.

At 9:00 A.M. main staff gathered and began setting up. The graduating students began coming in the hall at 10:30. The staff did all the preparation nimbly, lights, PA, microphone adjustments, the documents for the graduates, checking the schedule, etc.… Then at 11:00 came the time to kick off finally.
The ceremony started with the clapping in the guests of honor and declaration to open, then the Certificates were given to the graduating students. With spirited replies of those students and the bigger voices of the homeroom teachers calling them, the ceremony got much more sensational than that in last year. Congratulations for all the Graduates anyway!!

Next, prizes for the good attendance and the perfect attendance were given. At SNG graduation certificate is issued for the students completed those three courses of 1 year, 1 and a half years, and 2 years. Most of them are the diligent ones who hold the attendance rates over 90%, and among them those who with the most excellent records were given those prizes. You want to know what the extra prize was? Well, let’s leave it secret.
After that we got the congratulatory speeches by the principal, by the executive director, by the assistant director and by the guests of honor. Then following was an address in reply by Mr. Quan, the representative of the graduating students from the advanced class.
Hey Quan, you made a terrific speech with dignified mood even in front of so many people! Seeing you the days I taught you in the intermediate course came back to my mind as if it was only yesterday!

The ceremony almost came to the closing at 12:40 with the full-throated song “With A Grateful Heart” sung by all the students and school staff. After the closing was declared the place was quickly reformed for the graduation party.
Look! Tons of foods are prepared in front of us!! But SNG’s party does not remain a buffet, but amuses our eyes and ears also. Now it’s the show time!! The beginning was the dance by the Vietnamese students in beautiful green costumes. Then the dance with song by a couple of students from Peru followed. They seemed to have been well used to playing on stage, but no wonder, they had been passed to the professional school for dancing. Red lights added an extra touch of beauty to their performance.

Then the EXILE came on stage to dance! Wait, on a closer view they were our office staff! Then Matsu-Ken joined them in the costume of Samba --- actually he was our principal.
The show went on. Next was Hiromi Go’s “Gold Finger ‘99” performed by the teachers. Students also joined them one after another. And finally, the students’ excitement and jubilation had finally peaked when our walking secret weapon, the executive director in the KFC Colonel Sanders costume. The flood of photo flashes filled the whole banquet. On his appearance we realized that all our performances were merely curtain raisers … believe me, he was really resembled Mr. Sanders. The scene was just like an interview with a big celebrity.

The dance party never stopped here! Next was a colorful and a little bit exotic Thai dance by the Government-financed foreign students from Thai. Staff for Arcadia Ichigaya also enjoyed looking at them from the stage side. They told me later that they had never had such a sensational party there. I know all was by grace of the brilliant MC, it was me!

After that we had a free dance time led by the three students from Peru and Brazil. Surprisingly those students or teachers who looked docile or acted gently also joined the dance. Finally I got the actual image of them…
2 hours had passed just like a flash, and the party was finally over. I know many people wished it never was.
On that day 275 students graduated from our school. Graduates, drop in the school when you come near. Don’t forget that you are welcomed back at any time...
