■ Highest award at "しゃべれおん 2008"

Our student, Ms Bashirova got the first prize at the speech contest “しゃべれおん’08”!

On June 14th the speech contest, “しゃべれおん’08”, took place at Shinjuku Bunka center. Ms Ainur represented our school and participated in this speech contest. This speech contest was held by “Tokyo Yotsuya Lions Club” and “Shinjuku Foundation for Culture & International Exchange”. Every year an average of 15 foreign students participate in this contest and make a speech in Japanese about what they feel and think in their daily life for 7 minutes.

She is from Kazakhstan as a national scholarship student. She talked about her home country and Japan, wearing Kazakh’s traditional cloths. She prepared well in advance and her big supporters (classmates and teachers) came to listen, so she got the first prize honorably.

The next week, the president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev visited Japan, and Ms Bashirova had an audience with him as a national scholarship student. Of course, she told him about the first prisze at the speech contest. She is a gifted person. She might be born with a silver spoon. Congratulations, Ms Bashirova!

What a perfect speech!

■ Fight and fantastic! Futsal game!

At the same time the Euro2008 was held in Austria and Switzerland, “SNG futsal competition” was held in Takadanobaba.

“No way! Holland also lost the game followed by Portugal on Euro 2008. And that’s not all, England could not play at Euro 2008 because they were eliminated in the pool play. But I’m going to be a fantasista and show everyone my great playing at SNG futsal competition! I wanna be C. Ronaldo of SNG! I wanna be Van Nistelrooy of SNG!! I wanna be Rooney of SNG!!! I wanna make a legend as a best fantasista of SNG!!!!”

There must be some students who think like that. In short, futsal is mini-soccer, one team has only 5 players. (Of course there are some differences in rules with soccer, but let’s omit to explain them here.) It was the third time we held the futsal competition, and this is the most heated event at SNG. For this time, 4 student’s teams and 1 teacher&staff team applied to this competition. Comparing with last year, the number of students was decreased, but instead, they could enjoy the concentrated time, and come on, it’s held at the same time with Euro 2008.
The teams and their members who gathered at the gym on 24th/June were as below. Pic1: The most powerful team, “SAMBA”

The most powerful team, “SAMBA”
Technical players, “I wanna be with you…”
Live up to your name, “Go for the first prize for 3 years running”
Half of members are girls, “Boiola”

Middle age teachers & staff team, “SNG Gundam”

SNG Cup and sponsors

We took round robin tournament, and the champion was got decided by the number of wins & loses and goal difference. One game was 14 minutes with halftime for 1 minute in the middle of the game. But it was too hard for teachers to play for 15 minutes. We are short of exercise, so it was so tough for us. But how nimble the students were! They kept playing and running, and they were still totally fine. In fact, they seemed to want to play more and more. I’m asking you to cut corners!

Finally it was lunch time after two tough games. The teacher team got 1 goal, but we were still at the bottom with 0 wins and 2 losses. I felt sluggish. All of the student’s teams competed head to head. We had to do our best to warm up for the competition in the afternoon. Now it was the time to show the students what we’re made of!!
I ate a piece of chocolate and it got me ready for the games in the afternoon. But we could not use our bodies the way we wanted, and we lost the game again 2-5. However, we got 2 goals in this game and it was my third goal of the day. I told myself that my condition is good, and I secretly got ready for the final game.

The students got really involved in the games. It was not like futsal, but foot ball. Of course, there were no aggravated tackles, but some students did chip in strong shots from far away and there were some rough plays and approaches. Fortunately, no students were hurt, but the tension became so thick a few times. Everyone was so serious. Of course, there were smiles as well. Please see some relaxed and cute pictures.

Well, the competition reached the final phase. Some of the members of “SAMBA” were from France and French speaking countries. France lost at EURO2008, but “SAMBA” kept winning with explosive power. And “I wanna be with you…” was also a powerful team with a stable strong offensive power. These two teams were both possible champions. I’m afraid that “Go for the first prize for 3 years running” and “Boiola” were already out of the running for the championship. Regarding “Boiola”, they were short of players from the beginning. Furthermore some of their members went home during the competition. Fortunately our former student, who just came to see us, joined this team as a goalie, so they could keep playing. Maybe that’s why they could not play well. By the way, the teacher team still kept occupying the bottom rank in the afternoon, too. We want to win the final game!

The champion team was….”SAMBA”! They won at all the games. They were no.1 in terms of technique and stamina. Incidentally, the second prize went to “I wanna be with you”, and the weakest team was “SNG Gundam”(Teachers & staffs team). The champion team was awarded a trophy and hats, and all the other teams were also awarded some gifts. Everyone, congratulations! By the way, I also got 2 goals in the last game, and in total I got 5 goals a day! If I could get two more goals, I could be a scoring champion. It was fairly good because I have had little short exercise these days. Umm…but I wanted to win.

I want to thank the office staff for preparing this event, and thank the classmates who came to see the games! We could enjoy this event. Former students also came to join the games, so we were so happy to see them again. I’m looking forward next time!
Big supporters, score girls from office.
He is a good young man, Mr. Tamanaga. He acted as umpire.

We need teamwork for both prep and cleanup!
