■　Let’s make Hina dolls!

　3rd March is the Girl’s festival, Hina festival. Let’s make together!

♪あかりをつけましょ　ぼんぼりに
お花をあげましょ　桃の花
五人ばやしの　笛太鼓（ふえたいこ）
今日はたのしい　ひな祭り♪

　Know as a nobleman’s play since Heian period, the Japanese festival Hinamatsuri was originally a Shinto ritual of exorcism. Since the boy’s day on 5th May is an event for boys, Hinamatsuri became the girl’s day event from Edo period. In this period, splendid and large-sized dolls were usually made and considered as a luxury item. In a moment, the Shogunate has forbidden to make large-sized dolls to control the consumption.

　This time, [Let’s make handmade Hinadolls] day was promoted inside school. Dolls with origami paper and tissues were made by students. Of course, it was not the luxury dolls as Edo period. One hour of activity was programmed, but more then 2 hours have passed. Some students were absorbed in making them dolls and had stay for more then 3 hours to finish it. For studying abroad students it was probably an opportunity to make handiworks, maybe that’s why they were so absorbed in.
