■ Sunday Class Year-End Party 2009

Shinjuku Japanese Language Institute offers not only everyday classes for students holding college and pre-college visas, but also courses for students already living and working in Japan. The weekend course is scheduled from 10:00am to 12:45pm on Sunday in order to accommodate the average work schedule of Japanese residents. Last year, December 20th was the final day of class for these students, and lessons concluded early so that students and teachers could join together for an end-of-the-year party.

The buffet-style party began around noon, with a variety of foods and drinks on the table. Since most of the Sunday class students are over the legal drinking age of 20, beer was also available. Unlike typical Japanese end-of-the-year parties, which usually take place in izakayas (Japanese-style bar), ours was held at school and was more of a conversational event. From beginner to advanced, all of the Sunday students enjoyed the party. It was also a great opportunity for those who came from different classes to get to know each other.

Beer, beer!
Cheers!
A small, but friendly party.
Getting ready.
No suit for the teacher!
Say cheese!

■ Disneyland Winter!

The last, yet most exciting event in 2009!

At Shinjuku Japanese Language Institute, we plan a number of events throughout the year: a cherry blossom tour, summer camp, Mt. Fuji tour, etc. Among these events, one of the most popular ones is the trip to the Tokyo Disney Resort.

The destination (Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo Disney Sea) changes every year. Since it is such a popular event, the destination is always a prime concern for many participants: “I heard that the school went to Disney Sea last year. Does that mean we are going to Disneyland this year?” “I’ve been to Disney Sea, so it’d be nice if we could go to Disneyland!” As you can see from the pictures below, this year’s destination was Tokyo Disneyland. 185 students participated in the event.

Although it was cold, the weather was fine and everyone enjoyed the trip. Some students stayed until closing and the staff was impressed by their stamina. The event took place after final exams and students seemed to have a fantastic day out, enjoying the start of their vacations.

Let’s have fun!
