■ Seven Lucky Gods Tour In Kawagoe City!

In January, the school took a trip to the city of Kawagoe.

In January, the school took a trip to the city of Kawagoe, which is considered one of Japan's 100 Beautiful Historical Locations. There are quite a few ways to describe Kawaoge: the city of kurazukuri-style warehouses, Small Edo, or the filming location for the NHK drama "Tsubasa." From Takadanobaba, it takes only one hour to get to Kawagoe City.

Preserving a number of traditional establishments, the city of Kawagoe is listed as one of Japan's 100 Beautiful Historical Locations, as well as being one of the 100 Japanese Sound Sceneries. Roofs of tile, soil walls, and kurazukuri-style houses are the remains of the Edo and Meiji periods. Paces such as Hikawa shrine, Buddhist temples, the Time Bell Tower, and the Sweets Alley attract a lot of tourists.

On the 16th of January (Sat.), about 30 staff members and students participated in the Seven Lucky Gods tour. We went first to Myozen Temple, then Tennen Temple, followed by Kitain, Mt. Narita, Keiren Temple, Kenryuji, and finally, Myosyoji.

As you can see from the photos below, the weather was fine and everyone enjoyed walking around the city. There was a hole-in-the-wall traditional Japanese sweets shop, an eel shop so traditional-looking that you just have to ask how long it's been there, and an unstaffed farm stand that looked so innocent, you couldn't imagine taking advantage by not paying for the goods. It was so much fun just looking around at all of these things.

We wonder what students wished for while they visited the various temples and shrines to see the Lucky Gods. Protection from illness? The well-being of their families? Good results on their exams? Anyway, we hope the students will all have a great year ahead and enjoy the rest of their stays in Japan!
