For more questions and answers, please see the FAQ page.
A Long History

Shinjuku Japanese Language Institute will soon celebrate its 40th anniversary, although Japanese language instruction actually began as early as 1951. Continuing a long tradition, SNG pursues the forefront of Japanese language education, developing original teaching methods and materials. We hope everyone can experience the Ezoe Method, a highly effective teaching method for improving grammar and communication ability.
Excellent Instructors

SNG has outstanding faculty with a wealth of experience. In December 2009, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested the school send teachers to give lessons for the JENESYS PROGRAMME. Our teachers also give classes at some Japanese universities and graduate schools, and conduct yearly programs at the University of West Florida (USA). Our teachers taught at the Career Development Program for Foreign Students in Japan. Teachers have a weekly study session to keep abreast of current teaching methods and continue to refine their skills. Every class is taught by two teachers (alternating days) so that students have the opportunity to adjust to the Japanese language as spoken by a variety of people. SNG also offers free catch-up classes to help students review previously-taught material. Kanji, pen calligraphy and brush calligraphy are optional courses.
Excellent Location

Shinjuku Japanese Language Institute’s campus can be found in the student-town of Takadanobaba, a great location with easy access from the JR Yamanote Line, Tokyo Metro lines, and the Seibu-Shinjuku Line. Close to Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, and Shibuya, shopping and sightseeing are very convenient.
>> It’s the perfect location for students who wish to see it all!
Varied Student Body

As of July 2010, the students studying at SNG hail from more than 38 different countries and regions. Students learn not only Japanese culture, but the cultures of their classmates, as well. Making friends from around the world and cultivating a broader worldview – this is the epitome of international study.
Government-Certified Preparatory School

Japanese universities require a minimum of 12 years of education, from elementary school through high school. SNG is officially certified by the Ministry of Education to prepare foreign students who have less than 12 years of fundamental education.
Full Guidance Counseling

SNG offers a full guidance counseling program. EJU and JLPT support lectures, university and graduate school information meetings, alumnae networking events, counseling, etc. are on-going throughout the year. Students may also take courses in math, English, science, physics, short essay writing, and other required subjects free of charge. Every year, students continue on to public and private universities, including some of Japan’s top schools.
Japanese Cultural Events

We’re probably the only school that puts so much energy into cultural events. Many students participate in the Japanese cultural events that are held every month. Some examples from last year: a sumo tournament, a tour to Mt. Fuji, Hokkaido and Okinawa homestays, Okutama camping, Izu camping, a ski trip, an exchange party with Japanese university students, martial arts experience, summer festival (Bon Odori). Come and experience Japan with us, too!
