■　Speech Contest Participation

　Saturday, June 12th: Japanese Speech Contest “Shabereon ‘10”

　Every June, the “Shabereon” Japanese speech contest is held for non-native speakers. Fifteen to twenty participants take the stage each year, giving ten-minute speeches (about 1,000-1,500 characters in length) on familiar topics.

　We still remember two years ago, when our school’s very own Ainur Bashirova won the contest (ref: July 2008). This year, Michel Roland Godimus (nationality: French) from the advanced classes stepped up to the challenge. The contest was held at the small hall on the 3rd floor of Shinjuku Ward’s Shinjuku Cultural Center.

　Unfortunately he didn’t win, although he said that it was a good experience. Just memorizing an essay in Japanese and speaking before the winner was a first for him. Even though it was a holiday, the advanced class teachers Yamanoue-sensei and Oka-sensei rushed over to support Michel. Thank you so much.
