Cooking & origami class report

Our school started an special culture course for intermediate students.
In this course, students learn not only the language but also the Japanese culture.

Since May 5 was Japan’s Children’s Day, students learned how to make origami samurai armors
and carp-shaped streamer. It was their first time to try origami, and they were really happy to see
their finished work.

In cooking class, the teacher taught how to make sushi (futomaki), niku-jyaga (Japanese-style simmered
meat and potatoes), and miso soup. Although some of the students were good ar cooking while others are not,
they all enjoyed cooking the Japanese dishes. They were expecially excited when they cut the futomaki in half (see pictures below).

SNG teachers and staff hope that students will continue to enjoy learning Japanese culture as well as the language!
