Intermediate Japanese Course

This level focuses on situation-related Japanese.

Using beginner level’s grammar points as a basis, this level will move onto more advanced grammar by balancing 5 skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing, communication) to acquire practical Japanese skills.

This course reviews essential grammar and provides students with the chance to use their acquired skills and to further develop the five skills in a balanced manner.

General Course

Basic Intermediate

Level equivalent to N4(JLPT)/A2(CEFR) (those who have mastered beginner Japanese) Study time at home (standard): 1 to 2 hours/day

Be able to talk about your experiences, opinions, thoughts, and such, in a logical way.
Understand the basic structure of Japanese grammar, and write texts combining kanji and kana.
Roughly understand the content of texts that are about 1,000 characters long.
Understand and use beginner level grammar.

General Course

Intermediate I

Target level: N4~N3 (JLPT) / A2~B1 (CEFR) Study time at home (standard): 1 to 2 hours/day

Be able to listen to and understand a consistent talk.
Be able to listen to and understand essential information in daily life and from familiar conversation topics.
Fully understand a text of a certain length (about 1,000 characters).
Understand the main points of a text.
Give explanations about your thoughts or a situation using grammar previously studied.
Write your opinion in a logical way.
Properly tell your own opinion making the best use of known vocabulary.
Be able to have smooth conversations in various contexts.
Talk with a Japanese-like pronunciation and intonation.

General Course

Intermediate II

Target level: N3 (JLPT) / B1 (CEFR) Study time at home (standard): 1 to 2 hours/day

Understand Japanese in daily life when hearing it.
Tell your opinion about a topic, based on your own experience.
Be able to tell your own impressions, give explanations, and such.
Be able to have necessary daily conversations smoothly.
Talk with a Japanese-like pronunciation and intonation.
Be able to read a simple explanation text.
Write opinion statements that are about 400 characters, about familiar social issues.

Intensive Course

Intensive Intermediate I

Target level: N4 (JLPT)/A2 (CEFR) Study time at home (standard): 1 to 2 hours/day

Understand the main points of an everyday-life conversation or of a familiar topic, even when encountering some unknown words.
Understand the difference between the written language and spoken language, and use them separately.
Understand the summary of a text (about 1,000 characters) about a familiar topic.
Be able to read smoothly with a Japanese-like pronunciation and intonation.
Be able to read a 600~800 character text and answer simple questions about it.
Be able to write a simple composition (around 400~600 characters) that ties together your impressions based on your individual experience, and your opinions.
Summarize a text (around 200 characters) with instructions from the teacher.
Be able to state your thoughts about a daily topic or a familiar topic you have interest for, making the best use of known vocabulary.
Talk with a Japanese-like pronunciation and intonation.

Intensive Course

Intensive Intermediate II

Target level: N3 (JLPT)/B1 (CEFR) Study time at home (recommended): 1 to 2 hours/day

Listen to and understand a consistent talk.
Fully understand a text of a certain length.
Talk about your experiences, opinions, thoughts, and such, in a logical way.
Be able to properly express your opinion in a rational way.
Be able to have smooth conversations in various contexts.
Talk with a Japanese-like pronunciation and intonation.
